Biography

Michael McCarty is an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the Dallas – North office of Haynes Boone. His practice encompasses all phases of patent prosecution, post-grant proceedings (including PTAB trials), and litigation support across a wide variety of complex technologies. Michael has a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence and wireless communications, and also handles matters involving other software-enabled and electrical technologies, including analog circuits.

Michael's practice leverages deep technical expertise in artificial intelligence, covering modern frameworks such as multi-agent systems, large language models (LLMs), transformer models, and diffusion models, alongside training methodologies including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning, and data augmentation methods. He also possesses significant experience with wireless communication technologies, including standard essential technologies related to 3GPP and IEEE (e.g., 5G and WiFi). His work includes drafting and prosecuting patents, and providing strategic counsel on standard essential patents (SEPs)as well as supporting litigation efforts.

Prior to his legal career, Michael gained valuable engineering experience designing embedded electronics systems, including those with processors and FPGAs, and developing solutions for various applications such as mass spectrometer systems and industrial controllers.
