Matthew Beck
Biography
Matthew Beck is an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in Haynes Boone’s Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on patent disputes before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), patent litigation, and patent counseling.
Matthew has experience in post grant proceedings before the USPTO, including inter partes review, post grant review, and ex parte reexamination challenges. He has assisted clients throughout all stages of post grant proceedings, from drafting petitions to presenting oral argument. His practice also includes counseling and assisting with patent litigation matters involving standard essential technologies. He also has experience prosecuting patent applications in various fields, and maintains an active pro bono docket, having been included in the Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll in 2022.
Matthew’s technical expertise includes a wide array of technologies including video compression and encoding (including AVC and HEVC), artificial intelligence, networking (including Wi-Fi and 3GPP), oil and gas drilling, image and content recognition, vehicle systems, financial transactions, open-source technologies, and computer hardware and software.
Prior to law school, Matthew studied computer science at Lafayette College, where he competed in track and field and served as an advocate for mental health awareness in collegiate athletics. As a student, he worked with multiple local nonprofits on both front and back-end development of education information software.
